Abstract
In a wireless sensor network (WSN), sensor nodes report sensed events to a sink node/base station, which is a data collector. Because sensors have limited power, energy should be efficiently conserved to extend the WSN´s lifetime. Therefore, multiple sinks can be deployed to shorten the communication distance between sensors and sinks. In this paper, we propose a heuristic based approach to bind sensors to appropriate sinks in a WSN. The proposed approach balances the load of sensors across sinks without overloading them. Preliminary results show that the proposed approach can extend the network life time and reduce power consumption of the different network entities.
