Abstract :
AC-AC converters offers much better energy efficiency and compactness than conventional two-stage power converters or inverters. This paper presents a new modular phase bank design approach of AC-AC converters. Preliminary theoretical analysis of the silicon utilization and AC switch ratings for this breed of power converter is attempted. A DSP based low-cost system control is discussed and implemented. Experimental results verify the proposed system design approach. The new design of the AC-AC converter is capable of operating for practical applications at both 50/60 Hz class and 400 Hz class. Potential practical applications are evaluated and highlighted in this paper
