  • Abstract
    An efficient forecasting algorithm on burst transmission probability is proposed in this paper. This new algorithm is based on the self-similarity characteristics of burst traffic. Firstly, the algorithm tests the self-similarity by evaluating the Hurst index according to graphical R/S analysis. Secondly, the algorithm adopts the Pareto distribution to analyze the burst transmitted probability. Because of convenient and economical considerations, the analysis of burst transmitted probability is based on groups of data on OFF time periods. Simulation results show this forecasting algorithm can estimate the burst transmitted probability simply and efficiently.
