Abstract :
A new technique for constructing trellis coded quantisation schemes based on the partial unit memory (PUM) codes is introduced. The construction provides the same signal-to-quantisation noise ratio (SQNR) as the conventional techniques based on the convolutional codes. However, its distance properties are improved and implementation complexity is significantly reduced due to a specific trellis structure PUM codes
