Abstract :
Characterized by simple structure, stable operation and low production cost, switched reluctance motors (SRM) have a vast potential for application. An excessive running noise, however, is emitted due to their large torque ripple in running. The key to eliminating such noise is to limit the torque ripple in addition to optimization of the design of the motors. In general, it is difficult to define an accurate mathematical model for a SRM and consequently, it becomes quite difficult to analyze the SRM. For this reason, direct torque control technique (DTC) is applied to the SRM in this essay so that the motor is able to suppress any torque ripple effectively in order to achieve a substantial reduction of noise.
