Abstract :
With major control and power module advances incorporated in third generation AC adjustable speed drives (ASD), industry interest has shifted to applications and secondary issues. The paper traces the rise of secondary issues to primary concerns. Among the secondary issues discussed are: effects of high dv/dt on system performance, motor terminal overvoltages with long cables, and the contribution of pulse width modulated (PWM) voltage source inverters to bearing currents
