Abstract
It is now imperative that any remaining dependent manual low voltage switchgear be taken out of service as soon as possible. Certainly by March 1998. The most desirable solution is to replace a complete switchboard with its modern alternative. Users have been systematically doing this for many years. There are however many installations where this approach is extremely difficult to justify. The three main reasons being: (i) permissible downtime is very limited; (ii) existing cables are to be retained and must not be disturbed; and (iii) cost. There are in theory two alternative methods of overcoming these disadvantages: Bolt On ACB Cubicle-this comprises an ACB mounted in a cubicle, coupled up on site to the existing busbars and cable tails, after removal of the OCB and connections; and Replacement ACB Cubicle-this arrangement comprises a factory built, purpose designed cubicle, the same width as the cubicle to be replaced. Integral busbars line up with the existing busbars. Terminations are provided to match the existing cable positions
