Abstract :
A method of encapsulating and propagating measurement uncertainty information in modular instrumentation systems is described. The technique is simple to implement and fully compliant with international best practice. Measurement uncertainty is a fundamental aspect of any measurement system and is currently difficult to manage when systems are subjected to configuration changes. The technique could provide a significant step forward in maintaining the integrity of complex systems.
