Abstract
This paper will present a systematic scheme to determine the optimal operational strategy of a single-sided permanent magnet axial-flux motor (SPMAM), based on the associated motor winding current and speed constraints. For possible electrical vehicle application, maximized rotational force of this motor while maintaining minimized axial force simultaneously is desired. Such objectives can be achieved by properly adjusting the portions of motor stator winding currents projected onto the orthogonal sets of axes corresponding to the rotor positions, and the realizations of the proposed scheme is confirmed by detailed analytical and experimental studies.
