Abstract :
Mercury is a highly toxic heavy metal that it´s pollution has attracted the global attention. This paper analyzes the situation of mercury use in the main industries of PVC production and manufacture of battery, electric light, medical device in China. Furthermore, it discusses in detail the best available technology of mercury use reduction and mercury emission control in those industries. It results that some technology such as low-mercury catalyst in PVC industry, non-mercury battery, amalgam substituted mercury and LED light in electric light industry, the electronic thermometer and blood pressure in medical device industry etc., could sufficiently reduce mercury use and emissions to lower the risk of mercury pollution to the environment.
