Abstract :
We propose here the adaptive multicast routing protocol, a multicast routing protocol for wireless mobile ad hoc networks. Current research indicates that the On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol (ODMRP) is a highly reliable mechanism. However, in the ODMRP, every sender must periodically broadcast control packets to establish a route and build mesh structure. The large amount of control packets generated when many senders are present in the network creates excess overhead in ODMRP systems, and the high number of collisions caused by control packets reduces system reliability. We propose a method to resolve the shortcomings of ODMRP systems. This method allows senders to broadcast join-query control packets according to the current packet delivery ratio in the network, thus reducing both the collisions and the overhead generated by an excess of control packets and greatly improve packet reliability. As revealed in the simulation results, our method significantly boosted the efficiency of ODMRP.
