Abstract :
In this paper, a method of optimally arranging a solar array for glueless matching to a known linear load is proposed. Array performance is examined for three common types of loads under real weather conditions. Test results indicate that only in case of a pure resistive load the MPPT-based solar system usage is justified. In case of a load represented by a voltage source with internal resistance, losses in a real MPPT-driven converter are on the par or higher than the converterless system produced energy deviation from the maximum possible value.
