Abstract
There is a large demand for high dynamic range system that operates at high resolutions. Particularly in high quality videos and images over internet. Internet protocol networks are prominent areas where such requirements are more. Some other fields where image and video compression techniques used are traffic cameras, automatic surveillance, geospatial remote sensing, automotive industry, homeland security. Multiplier-free approximate DCT transform will be implemented having very low circuit complexity and superior compression performance. DCT has remarkable property of energy compaction due to which it is used in multiple of compression standards. The proposed system uses Spartan-III FPGA on which such approximations can be implemented using additions only which possesses a very low computational complexity. In this transform image compression is done using Spartan-III FPGA then this compressed image is again decompressed in MATLAB.
