Abstract
In this paper, a new broadband slot antenna fed by coplanar waveguide (CPW) is presented. The new antenna structure design takes advantage of the coupling feeding slot technique and the slot antenna concept to improve the bandwidth. Based on using a radiating slot element instead of a patch as used in conventional antennas, good performance in terms of bandwidth and gain was achieved. To examine its performance the proposed antenna was designed, fabricated and tested at 5.8 GHz. With this approach, a bandwidth of ∼ 9% (520 MHz) was achieved. Numerical and experimental results for return loss and radiation pattern are presented and discussed.
