Abstract :
The issues of voltage flicker in electric utility power systems serving arc furnace loads are discussed with various limit curves, manual calculation methods, and field tests in this paper. The interaction of arc furnace power system harmonic filters is discussed to show a correlation between filter tuning and voltage flicker under certain operating conditions. Example systems consisting of multiple furnaces and a single furnace are used illustrate the voltage flicker issues encountered in industry today. Actual field tests performed on electric arc furnace power systems are used to compare estimations to actual existing voltage flicker
