Abstract :
A design of a planar single-layer quasi-Yagi antenna is proposed for 60 GHz wireless communication systems. The antenna is made of a fully planar structure made of only single metallic layer printed on one side of a low-loss dielectric slab. The antenna shows a maximum gain of 11.8 dBi with a very wide 3dB gain bandwidth covering the entire unlicensed FCC-60 GHz band (i.e. from 57 GHz to 64 GHz). The antenna also designed to show a forward-to-backward radiation ratio of more than 13 dB in entire band. This Quasi-Yagi antenna is designed to be fed using a coplanar-waveguide transmission line, with a transition to a twin-line, showing a -10dB-impedance bandwidth of around 4.25 GHz (centered at around 62 GHz).
