Abstract :
Due to the demand of green energy, the number of wind turbines installed has been increased drastically worldwide. Comparing with the traditional utility generation systems, the dynamic characteristic and response of wind farms are totally different. As a result, it is very important to analyze wind generation systems with well-proven simulation tools. However, simulations for complex network models with traditional off-line techniques may have several disadvantages or limitations. More efficient simulation tools and techniques are needed. In this paper, a PC Cluster-Based real-time simulator is used to simulate wind generation systems with different modeling levels. Test cases with real-time and off-line simulations are then compared. Numerical experiences show that the real-time simulator significantly reduces computation time and provides more accurate and stable results.
