Abstract :
Current source inverter (CSI-fed induction motor drives are commonly used for high power applications without necessity to fast dynamic response. Although these kind of drives are more economic in high power ratings, they have some inherent disadvantages, that limit their applications. In this paper, in addition to presenting vector control system of CSI-fed induction motor drives, a novel method has been presented to remove some disadvantages and improve their performance. In this method, a voltage source inverter has been used as a shunt active filter. Results show the effects of this method on the overall drive set and especially load currents. The method leads to improve torque and speed control in wide range of speed variations that have been problematic in traditional CSI-fed motors.
