Abstract
This paper attempts to provide a purview of some of the challenges, both technical and commercial of promoting regional power system interconnection in Southern Africa. It is evident that interconnection would have massive benefits for the region, and may provide motive power to propel it from its under-developed status. It is also evident that region-wide interconnection is both technically and economically viable
