Abstract
The authors have developed a flexible environment that provides a tool for quantitative analysis of left ventricular function using ultrasound images. Manual delineation of the left ventricle is performed on a sequence of 64 images, digitized at a maximum speed of 25 images per second. In a second window, this sequence is displayed in cine mode, which improves visual edge perception. After manual delineation, the contour is displayed on the cine sequence and local corrections can be made by interactive modification using rubber banding. Analysis includes volume calculation, ejection fraction, wall motion analysis using the centerline method and regional intensity variation for studies on contrast enhanced echocardiograms. The environment is intended for experimental purposes, e.g. performing clinical studies and evaluating new algorithms
