Abstract
This paper presents novel and practical criteria for optimal placement of actuators and sensors for an acoustic cavity with non-ideal boundary conditions. The criteria are motivated by energy based approach and model uncertainty inclusion. Practical aspects of the method are highlighted by experimental flexural vibration and acoustic noise attenuation using minimax LQG controller with the optimal actuator and sensor location. Reductions of flexural vibration up to 17 dB over the entire frequency range of interest and the associated noise up to 10 dB are achieved without the explicit knowledge of the acoustic model
