Abstract :
This paper presents two universal lossy source codes for unequal code symbol costs. One minimizes the cost of codeword when the maximum distortion is specified, and another minimizes the distortion when the cost per source symbol is specified. We prove that our proposed codes are asymptotically optimal for stationary ergodic sources
