Abstract
Calabazas Creek Research, Inc. (CCR) is developing a methodology to use confined flow focusing with convergent electron beams to provide the required power levels and acceptable cathode emission densities for multiple beam guns. The electrostatic design is relatively simple; however, the magnetic design is complicated by the off-axis location of the individual cathodes. Radial shear in the magnetic field must be corrected to allow proper transport of the beams. In addition, confined flow beams will spiral about the device axis without application of corrective measures in the gun region.
