Abstract :
Over the last 20 years, THALES ELECTRON DEVICES (TED) has developed and produced various broadband TWTs from the low frequencies between 6 and 18 GHz to the high frequencies between 18 and 40 GHz. In the recent years a strong technical and engineering effort has brought up a new product family with broader bandwidth (up to 3 octaves), increased output power: 100W typical, improved efficiency (up to 45%) and smaller size. Simultaneously the technology has been much simplified to drive the manufacturing cost down and is well suited for high volume production. The current applications include ECM systems, Decoys, Data Links and Instrumentation. Other models can be developed from this technology platform as for example a dual band 65 W Ka and 50 W EHF TWT for AEHF equipment.
