Abstract :
Manweb installed and commissioned a Network Management System (NMS) to control and monitor its 132 kV and 33 kV networks. NMS is an integrated suite of applications to provide an advanced power system control facility. The three main elements of NMS are: (i) a network information management system (NIMS) with a graphical user interface; (ii) a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system using a real-time applications platform; and (iii) an on-line power analysis system (PAS). In addition, there is substation local controller that is designed to operate in an integrated manner with the main system by using the same SCADA database. The system was designed using standard software and hardware products and built upon a UNIX based client server platform. It accesses over 650 sites, ranging from basic 33/11 kV transformer feeder substations (primary) to complex 132 kV multi-switch sites (GSP/BSP)
