Abstract
An automatic device for live working on overhead power transmission lines is under development in the Ukraine. The automated plug-in unit for insulator replacement (APUIR) employs robotized plug-in sub-assemblies to replace defective insulators and perform other tasks. The APUIR, which is mounted on an insulated lifting arm and is operated by a computer or an operator at ground level, is placed on an insulator string to release the tension of the string and to remove and install insulator units. The arm´s hydraulic system powers some plug-ins and drives an alternator, which powers video cameras and other electrical devices of the automatic unit for insulator replacement (AUIR) that forms the main working component of the APUIR.
