Abstract
Based on actual situation of biological diversity and by assessment methods and criteria of biological diversity maintenance set up by the state government, applying remote sensing and geographic information system technology, the importance of biological diversity maintenance in Chengde city has been evaluated. According to the results of assessment, the important areas in Chengde city are divided into four levels, i.e. extremely, medium, comparatively and general important, and the distribution of the areas is defined. This conclusion has presented scientific basis for biological diversity maintain protection work in Chengde.
