Abstract
The National Grid Company has installed a training simulator to train engineers in the operation of the power transmission system of England and Wales. The simulator enables engineers to experience a wide range of power system fault incidents and abnormal occurrences which are comparatively rare in reality. In addition, the new systems being added to the simulator will enable economic operation of the power system to be measured. This element of simulator operation is considered essential in developing the commercial awareness of staff and thus ultimately minimising costs to the end consumers
