Abstract
The TRON(“The Real-time Operating System Nucleus”) Project is researching large-scale, highly functionally distributed systems for the “computing everywhere” environment of the 21st century, when computers will be used in practically every kind of object imaginable. The project started up officially in 1984. This paper looks at the background out of which the project emerged, and examines once again the aims and philosophy that guide it. It reviews what we have accomplished over the past decade, and looks ahead to future directions
