Abstract :
New non-symmetric dimesogenic liquid crystalline compounds containing cholesteryl moiety and azo-imine linking group interconnecting via different alkyl spacers were synthesized. The thermal properties were investigated by polarized optical microscopy (POM). These compounds have liquid crystalline properties over a much wide temperature ranges with characteristic textures. With decreasing length of the flexible spacer, the corresponding Tm, Ti of dimesogenic liquid crystalline compounds increased, and its mesophase temperature range widened.
