Abstract :
Quite often, a given data set seems to have a “typical value” although its expected value fails to represent it. In this case, it is suggested to replace the classical “expected value” (EV) and “standard deviation” (SD) by the “weighted expected value” (WEV) and weighted deviation (WD). The WEV which represents the “most typical value” of the given data, is a solution to an associated nonlinear equation. The WD is derived explicitly from the data and the WEV and measures the latter´s “grade of typicality”
