Abstract
Microstrip antenna with frequency and radiation pattern selectivity is presented in this paper. A small patch-slot-ring structure is used as the radiating element. PIN diodes loaded across the slot-ring are employed to switch the pattern in three directions. The three patterns can cover the area from -80° to 60°. Moreover, one of the three situations operates at 2.84 GHz, and the others operate at 3.84 GHz. The designs are verified through both numerical simulations and measurements of an experimental prototype. Details of the antenna designs and measured results are presented and discussed.
