Abstract :
This paper presents a reconfigurable slotted patch antenna controlled by a thermal switch for temperature monitoring. The dimensions of the slotted patch antenna are designed to match a UHF RFID chip. In order to monitor the temperature of surrounding environment, a slot and a thermal switch are incorporated into the antenna´s left patch to reconfigure the resonant frequency. Frequency deviation between switch ON and OFF is about 35 MHz and read range of the antenna can reach 11 m. The antenna performance (resonant frequency, frequency deviation) is flexible by easily changing main parameters and it can also work well on metallic objects.
