Abstract :
Distributed Bragg Reflector (DBR) lasers with continuously and arbitrarily chirped gratings are potentially attractive devices in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems. A new method of implementing chirped gratings using bent waveguides on homogenous gratings fields has previously been proposed. In this method the grating can be quasi-continuously chirped with an ultrahigh spatial precision. Recently, we proposed a new “chirped DBR gartings” based on this method to improve and tailor specific properties. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the design of a new chirped DBR grating for improved side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) in DBR lasers
