Abstract
A patch antenna that fundamentally generates low levels of spurious and cross polarized radiation is presented. The antenna is fed by a probe feed located in the center of the patch conductor thereby minimizing spurious radiation. A slot within the patch conductor is utilized to ensure good impedance matching at the input port of the antenna. Symmetry is incorporated in the shape of the slot to enable low cross polarized radiation to be achieved. In this paper aspects of the design approach are presented and experimental validation is also provided for linearly polarized antennas.
