  • Abstract
The move to bring fiber into the neighborhoods began in earnest in 1988 with the BellSouth fiber to the home trial in Orlando, Florida. Billed as the harbinger of things to come, the system installed delivered ISDN and digitally encoded switched video the community. Today´s vision of FITL will be influenced by several factors which will work to shape the ultimate design and functionality of the platform. These items, summarized as competition and regulation, will determine the magnitude of deployment in this decade
