Abstract :
A mobile unit substation (MUS) is like a transformer/distributing station comprising of, besides the transformer, an HV section, an LV section and a set of feeder cables stored on a reel. The equipment is fixed to the chassis of a trailer and can be moved by a tractor to provide its use in various ways. This paper focuses on MUS selection/type, design, protection, operation and maintenance. MUSs are an integral component of Ontario Hydro´s Retail power distribution system and provide services to Ontario Hydro Retail´s more than 900 distributing stations.
