Abstract :
A spectral approach is used to describe solitary pulse propagation in the neighbourhood of the zero dispersion wavelength of optical fibers. This regime is desirable in optical communication systems. Both the effects of self-steepening and the third-order linear dispersion are taken into account and the solitary wave solution is derived analytically by using nonlinear dynamics techniques. The shifts of both the wavenumber and the group velocity, as well as the solitary wave amplitude, are derived analytically as well and are expressed as functions of the frequency shift from the zero dispersion point. Design parameters and power levels are proposed on this basis.
