Title :
Rechargeable zinc air batteries market and technology overview
Author_Institution :
AER Energy Resources Inc., Smyrna, GA, USA
Abstract :
AER Energy Resources is an Atlanta based technology company that has developed a rechargeable zinc air battery system. The primary advantage of the AER Energy Advanced Technology Battery is that its energy density on a weight basis is three times that of nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride and lead acid batteries, and fifty percent higher than lithium ion batteries. This new battery technology can enable full featured portable computers with 10-20 hours of run-time with little or no increase in system weight. Portable computers with ten hours of run-time that incorporate large active matrix color screens, CD ROM players, faster processors or cellular communication capabilities will be possible. AER Energy is currently supplying evaluation batteries to interested OEMs. The following aspects of the battery are discussed: electrochemistry, air manager, electrical components, discharge characteristics, and charge characteristics
