Abstract :
The line power factor of a two pulse controlled rectifier bridge can be improved in both positive and negative output voltage quadrants by employing a modified gating strategy. This allows the load current to freewheel through the main bridge components. This technique is analysed for a series load consisting of an inductor, resistor and voltage source. Diagrams representing the performance under various operating conditions are presented and compared with the conventional mode of operation.
