Abstract :
A new inverter with a single commutation circuit connected across the input dc bus is described. The inverter has inherent short circuit fuseless protection. The operation of the commutation circuit is described and a three phase inverter configuration is presented. The fuseless protection is then analyzed followed by a detailed procedure for a commutation circuit design. Finally, the efficiency of the new inverter is evaluated and is compared with that of the McMurray circuit for both six-step and PWM operation. The three phase inverter described in the paper has been built and has been laboratory tested.
