Abstract
Intelligent Systems started as a research group with Dr. Hassan Kazemian and Dr. Tony Browne in the academic year 1999/2000. In the academic year 2001/2002 the Intelligent Systems Group obtained the Center status, ´Intelligent Systems Research Center´. Currently there are 13 principal members in the Center. The expertise of the members of the Center is wide-ranging. The research undertaken at this Center is pivotal to both the University and the departmental research strategy, and directly related to undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computing, Communications Technology and Mathematics Department and also some other departments. This Center has been attracting grants for research projects, including from Engineering and Physical Science Research Council, the Royal Society, the Emerald — pre-commercialization fund, and most recently Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. Computing, Communications Technology and Mathematics Department strongly supports this Center as it provides a very strong focus for giving intelligence to a range of computer-based hardware and software.
