Abstract
The interaction between an electrically-conducting fluid in a channel flow and an imposed transverse magnetic field generates significant magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) effects, which often result in higher pressure gradients and lower heat transfer rates. The later effect is particularly undesirable in cooling-system applications. A nonlinear Lyapunov-based boundary control law is proposed for mixing and heat transfer enhancement in a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) channel flow, also known as Hartmann flow. A direct numerical simulation (DNS) code has been developed to simulate the full MHD equations and the heat transfer equation. A numerical study shows the effectiveness of the proposed controller
