  • Abstract
    This paper presents an experimental demonstration of two exclusive-OR (XOR) optoelectronic circuits that utilizes VCSELs as the output devices and heterojunction phototransistors (HPTs) as input detectors. One of the circuits realizes the XOR function (Q=AB¯+A¯B) using two output VCSELs. In addition to the XOR functionality, this circuit also determines if A is greater than B. This later function is essential in many sorting and data filtering systems and thus increases the usefulness of this circuit. The second circuit realizes the XOR function with a single output VCSEL. The operation of both circuits is described and XOR functionality is demonstrated
