Abstract :
We research ontological indexing and querying as a solution for getting better results in information retrieval, which translates in getting the most relevant documents meeting a query. While most of the research in this field focuses on query reformulation and document representation methods, we focused our research on an ontology-based query guidance system (our proposed OntoSense engine & user interface) which allows the human operator to formulate the query directly as an ontology, and an ontological indexing method, for an information retrieval system (IRS) that uses an ontology-based retrieval model. We also introduce ontology based user-defined search profiles as a new factor in the ontological ranking process.
