Abstract :
Gene regulatory networks are permanently affected by various sources of noise. This noise can have detrimental effects as it interferes with robust operation. However, noise can also produce useful effects. These effects have been recently unravelled in a variety of settings in physics and neurobiology. In this work, we report on one such effect occurring in a model of a gene regulatory network. Specifically, we show that noise is responsible for the appearance of coherence resonance in this system and comment on its implications for our understanding of noise in cellular regulation
