Abstract :
The system performance of the soft handoff scheme of the CDMA cellular system given with a fixed number of available channels recently is analyzed in the several papers. With the new call arrival rate in a cell given fixed, their analysis is centered on investigating the performance trend with respect to the relative portion of the soft handoff region to the whole cell area. But in the general CDMA system environment, this relative portion cannot be varied while keeping the arrival rate fixed, the assertion of which is elaborated on. The modification on the arrival rate leads to the conclusion on system performance, opposite to that made by the previous study that measures such as blocking and handoff refused probability become poorer as the area of the soft handoff region gets larger.
