Abstract
We are concerned with how to efficiently compress an ergodic source. One approach is to design lossy compression algorithms from lossless data compression algorithms. One of these algorithms, the fixed slope lossy algorithm is discussed. We select the kth order adaptive arithmetic coding algorithm with a codeword length function Lk(un)
