Abstract :
Design and features of an experimental thermal ac-dc converter with frequency output are presented. As a temperature sensor a bulk acoustic wave quartz resonator with linear frequency-temperature characteristic is used. A thin-film heater is sputtered on the edge of the resonator. The responsivity of the device is 300 kHz W/sup -1/. The short term stability of the output frequency allows an ac-dc transfer at the ppm-level. The ac-dc voltage transfer difference of the converter is smaller than 10 ppm at 3 V input voltage in the frequency range of 1 kHz to 10 kHz.
