Abstract :
An algorithm for estimation of the timing error based on the maximum likelihood principle is proposed for a DS/SS system. This algorithm is simplified and the timing error detector used in a timing tracking loop is derived. Early-late and early-in-time algorithms can be regarded as two particular cases of this algorithm
